How To Do Initial WordPress Blog Setup

I recently purchased my first ‘.co.uk’ domain and I noticed that I keep on doing the same things, the same initial settings, setup and configuration on my WordPress blogs. I am now sharing those things to you here. If you’re a newbie blogger, this is a good reference for your. If you’re familiar with it, wala lang, FYI and please give me feedback.

The title of this blog post should be ‘how to setup a blog‘. Why? Because it has more local searches in the US compared to my initial title which is ‘My Initial WordPress Setup’, which gets zero searches both locally and globally :) .. That’s an extra tip for you guys – always target keywords with searches for your post regardless of competition.

Call this as a “WordPress Installation Checklist” that you can refer to each and every time you put up a new site… at least I do.

WordPress Installation – Skipped

Nope, sorry. There will be no post about how to install WordPress blog here. I assume that you already have one installed or you already read about it somewhere else… If you haven’t, shot me an email (jacaranda9dbux at gmail.com) and I’ll create one quick post about howto install a self-hosted WordPress Blog.

But in a nutshell, the recommended way of doing it is via control panel of you webhosting account. There’s this Fantastico icon where you click and setup the blog.

how to setup a blogFirst thing is to setup the Site Title and Tagline (of course after we are done with the Plugins section, this will be overwritten by All In One SEO Plugin).

Important thing here also is to uncheck the “Anyone can register” check box. All other settings can be anything you want. (click Image to enlarge)

Writing Settings

Next is the Writing setting section of the ‘Secting’ section of the Dashboard (say what?)… hope you get that.

how to setup wrting section of wordpress blogIn my case, I always tick the XML-RPC part. What does this do? Well, it allows remote posting or remote publishing. For me kasi, I have this WordPress iPad app that I sometime use when I am stuck in traffic and I want to rant about it. In order for you to publish your post (or even connect to your blog I believe) you have to enable XML-RPC publishing.

Also, most of the times I put several ‘ping’ services in the Update Services part. The list of URLs listed in that will get contacted every time a new post is published. This will make the Search Engines know that you have new content and hopefully index them as soon as they can.

Next, we want to make some adjustments to the “Permalinks Structure” of your site. You do this by choosing Permalinks on the left hand menu also. Set your permalinks structure to look like the screenshot we have provided below.

Having this checklist is real cool. This way nothing is forgotten, you always have the links to download the correct plugins and there’s little ambiguity and therefore less room for mistakes.

BBCode or HTML Code For Backlinkng

I am currently doing some blog commenting on some of  my blog and website and I have been doing this bbcode and html backlink codes for a while now and I said to myself, ‘ I bet not everybody knows how to do bbcode backlinking’, or at least the newbie ones.

So, I decided to put up a quick post here to show the difference between an html code backlink versus a bbcode link.

HTML vs BBcode

How do you create an html-type or bbcode-type of link for your backlink? Well, I am glad you asked, :)

Here’s how:

BBcode is surrounded by a bracket ‘[ ]‘ as oppose to HTML which uses the greater than ‘>’ and less than ‘<’ symbol.

What’s the syntax? Well, I am glad you asked (you didn’t? well, I am going to tell you anyways):

bbcode:

[URL=http://www.yourdomain.com/]Anchor Text[/URL]

HTML:
<a href=”http://www.yourdomain.com/”>Anchor Text</a>

Nifty eh?

How To Know When To Use BBcode or HTML When Dropping Links?

Building Backlinks with Wiki Sites

backlink sourceHere’s a quick tip for you today if you are looking for additional source of backlinks for your site. We all know that link diversity is important in off page SEO and having links to wiki sites are great additions to our link portfolio.. and those wordings stuff.

I am assuming that you already know what SEO Quake is and you already installed it in your firefox/Chrome internet browser. If now, please search about it on Google or in this blog (soon, I’ll post about it here too).

So, anyway, one way of finding great, high PR Wikis to drop your links is by searching for this phrase “This page was last modified on”.

The output in the search engine will list down hundreds of thousands of results. You can then use Google advance search and SEO Quake to hand pick those that have high PR pages. You can then edit the wiki page and put your link (in relevant pages.. do not spam, ayt?)

How To Know When You Are Ovulating

Are asking yourself  how do you know if you are already ovulating? I assume that you are a femal, else.. you have a serious problem bro.

I also assume that you are either curious in your cycle or you are having difficulty getting pregnant. There are some women who are first time preggy, who are almost due, that are already seeking information on how to induce labor naturally.

But for you ladies that are having problem conceiving a baby, well good news for your! I just purchased a brand new, shinning domain called, what else – http://www.howtoknowwhenyouareovulating.org/ (yeah, the .com was already taken).

Anyway, it’s being processed by GoDaddy as we speak and will be ready by tomorrow I guess. I was going to register it tru my favorite Name Registrar, 1and1.com, but there this 500 something error when I try to register it… Oh heck, godaddy’s my only other choice.

So, if you are  wondering and asking yourself such question about ovulating and how to get pregnant and all those stuff, watch out the launching of my Ovulating website. I will be submitting a press release about that website so watch out for that too!

 

 

 

 

The Blessing of MSPalad Enterprises

Congrats to my parents for successfully putting up their own business – MSPalad Enterprises. They will be selling hardware and electrical stuff like pipes, nails, paints and lots of other things.

My father had been working abroad as on OFW for more than 25 years. This year, 2011, mom and dad decided to quit it and head back home. So my dad retire and they put up this business located in their MZM Building.

Today was the business’ blessing and once again, I would like to congratulate them for this. Good luck and I know that it will do good!

It really is a good day now, isn’t it? For the past couple of week, every day is dark and gloomy and rainy. Today while communiting to work, the sun king is looking pretty good. This is the first time in weeks since I last felt the warm of sunshine on my face (inside the bus going to work).

Of course this good weather will not last long as there is another storm coming.

Oh well, better enjoy the sun while its here… and expect sweat to come pouring down my face again (well, it does it anyway, rain or shine).

Love Bites kind of like reminds of LOST. Yeah I know they are completely different kinds of show but there’s one thing in common – the coincidences and the tie up of the characters
